NewcastleGateshead Quayside

The quayside is the best place in the city to view our seven spectacluar bridges which unite Newcastle and Gateshead over the River Tyne. Geordie translation: Best view in toon, it’s canny lush!

Newcastle Castle

Explore the dark and exciting history of the medieval fortress where the story of Newcastle began. You might even get a visit from the castle ghost… Geordie translation: Have a gander aboot the owld castle where the story of The Toon began.

Hadrian’s Wall

Submerge yourself in Roman history against a dramatic landscape with a visit to Hadrian’s Wall. Built to guard the wild north-west frontier of the Roman Empire, the wall stretches 73 miles coast to coast and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Geordie translation: Visit owa wall. It’s geet massive, owld and canny impressive.

Grainger Town

Overlooked by a striking monument of Earl Grey, Grainger Town is the historic heart of NewcastleGateshead and home to some of the most beautiful buildings in the region. Geordie translation: Grainger Toon is dead bonny.

The Glasshouse International Centre for Music

The international live music venue is hard to miss! It’s curving glass exterior makes it one of the UK’s most iconic landmark buildings. Home to the Royal Northern Sinfonia, The Glasshouse International Centre for Music (formally known as Sage Gateshead) hosts entertainment from all genres around the world. Geordie translation: You cannit miss The Glasshouse, everyone knahs aboot it. It’s yhem to the Royal Northern Sinfonia.

Ouseburn Valley

Boasting a lively and active community of artists, printmakers and independent galleries, the Ouseburn Valley is the creative hub of NewcastleGateshead and the perfect place to soak up culture, live music and tasty food. Geordie translation: Gan to the Ouseburn for a class time and tasty scran.

The Coast

Golden sands, towering cliffs and clean waters, our award-winning coastline definitely lives up to its reputation. Six of our beaches have won the Blue Flag award, crowning them among the cleanest in Britain. These include Tynemouth Longsands and Whitley Bay which are just under a 20 minute journey from the city centre. Geordie translation: You cannit beat owa beaches!

St. James’ Park

Football is one of our greatest passions! St. James’ Park is at the heart of the city centre and home to our very own football club, Newcastle United. Geordie translation: Nee better place on Earth!

Holy Island

Lying just off the Northumberland coast, Holy Island is the epitome of picturesque landscapes and rich Anglo Saxon history. Cut off twice-daily from the rest of the world by fast-moving tides, the island is one of the North East’s best kept secrets. Geordie translation: Holy Island is a reet bobby dazzler but watch oot for the tide!
