Brewin Dolphin Ltd is one of the UK’s largest independently owned private client wealth managers. They have 40 offices throughout the United Kingdom and Channel Islands, including a base in Newcastle and offer a wide range of investment management and financial planning expertise.

The Glasshouse International Centre for Music is one of the most innovative and exciting arts organisations in the UK. The Norman Foster designed building on the banks of the River Tyne in Gateshead has quickly established itself as one of the iconic structures on the NewcastleGateshead skyline. It is the permanent home to Northern Sinfonia, Orchestra of The Glasshouse International Centre for Music, and also hosts performances for all tastes – popular, jazz, world, classical, dance, brass bands, experimental, folk and traditional and more.

Brewin Dolphin planned a celebratory event in recognition of their 250th anniversary and to thank all of their clients, which would be one of the largest corporate events held at The Glasshouse International Centre for Music in the eight years since opening.

With upwards of 700 guests, Brewin Dolphin needed a venue that would provide the capacity to host such a large gathering which The Glasshouse is able to. However an additional factor to them making their choice was that they believed The Glasshouse’s status across the region and beyond, is one of the most well recognised and well respected venues in the country.

The firm also recognised the charitable aims that sit with North Music Trust at The Glasshouse International Centre for Music. The Glasshouse is a registered charity and each year they bring to the region exceptional musicians performing every genre and enable thousands of people of all ages and abilities to realise their aspirations through music. As a firm deeply committed to the North East, Brewin Dolphin  was keen to explore the opportunities of working together, beyond the event.

With this in mind, Brewin Dolphin was delighted to collaborate with The Glasshouse and, as a way to mark their 250th celebration, they embarked on sponsoring The Glasshouse’s Young Musicians Programme. The Young Musicians Programme provides a range of opportunities for musicians aged between 4 and 19 years old. A Brewin Dolphin Bursary has been established for the 2012/13 academic year to support young people to participate across the whole of the Young Musician’s Programme.  The bursary will be awarded on a means tested basis to support students where financial circumstances have significantly changed or where tailored learning programmes are required to meet the needs of very young talented musicians.

Brewin Dolphin had a strong music theme throughout the evening with a string quartet, including an ex-Northern Sinfonia player, playing music from 250 years ago through to Motown music to end the night and to party to in Northern Rock Foundation Hall.

Testimonials

Charles May, Head of Office at Brewin Dolphin Newcastle, said: “We simply couldn’t think of a more iconic and fitting venue to host our 250th birthday celebrations for our clients and guests. It is the perfect combination of an iconic, modern, well equipped venue and within a spectacular setting. As a location for our 250th birthday celebrations, The Glasshouse ticked every box.
“The Glasshouse International Centre for Music’s Events Team worked closely with us to transform our vision into reality and produced a truly spectacular event, which will be the talk of Brewin Dolphin for many years to come!.”

Natalie Bowman, Conference and Events Manager at The Glasshouse International Centre for Music said: “The Brewin Dolphin team had some fantastic ideas for their 250 Year Celebration Event that we were delighted to turn into reality. The event came to us with a relatively short lead time for something on this scale, but thanks to the commitment of the Brewin Dolphin executives and the expertise of our in house AV, Catering and Events teams, we were able to produce a spectacular result.”
