British Society of Lifestyle Medicine Annual Conference | 2024

We caught up with Andrew Howie, Chief Finance and Commercial Officer at the British Society of Lifestyle Medicine to see how delegates were finding the conference and the city.

“This is BSLM 2024, our eighth annual conference, and this year we have been fortunate enough to attract over a thousand delegates each day to the conference so its really popular this year.

What we like to do at BSLM is move our conference around to different areas of the UK so we’re not just in one place all the time. When we were looking for conference venues, we know that our delegates really like to have a lot of outside light; a nice, airy feel, which is perfectly what you get at The Glasshouse. We also know that NewcastleGateshead is a really vibrant area, so it made a lot of sense to come up here and host our conference at this wonderful venue.

I think the highlights are the fact there’s a really positive atmosphere among all of the delegates. Everybody’s commented on how welcoming everyone’s been, about how they’ve really enjoyed seeing the venue, especially with the great overview of the Tyne and yesterday we were blessed with lovely weather as well, which helped.

You look at the standard of the catering which is really high, the auditoriums are second to none in terms of the way that they can bring everyone together and create a great atmosphere within. I think there are a lot of really positive elements for [bringing a conference] to NewcastleGateshead.”
