One of the main ways delegates can support our net zero mission is to opt for a sustainable and regenerative mode of transport when travelling around the city.
Our region is made up of compact city centres many of which are 20-minute cities. This means delegates can walk or cycle and have access to local services within only a few minutes. Hotels and attractions are all within a short stroll of each other. Delegates will be able to walk from one side of a city to the other with ease, exploring all that the city has to offer, helping to keep delegates active and reducing the overall carbon footprint of the event.

The region is easy to explore by bike. You can hire a one from the likes of The Cycle Hub in Ouseburn and Pedal Power in Northumberland before taking in the picturesque cycle routes including Hadrian’s Cycleway along the River Tyne, Hadrian’s Wall UESCO World Heritage Site and cycle paths along the North East coastline. Local cycling information and maps plus guided rides are available from the bike hire hubs.
Newcastle and Gateshead, Sunderland and Durham are all also walkable cities with most of the hotels, venues and sights within 20 minutes of each other.
The Tyne & Wear Metro system is the busiest light rail system in the UK outside of London. There are 60 stations covering the area from Newcastle Airport to the coast, throughout Newcastle, Gateshead and Sunderland.

A variety of ticket options can be bought from machines at all Metro stations, however all-day travel on the Metro system is included with a Conference Travel Card.
