LGBTQ+ choirs from around the UK and Ireland will gather in NewcastleGateshead in 2021 for an ensemble of singing and live performances, celebrating the LGBTQ+ community.
Hand in Hand is a three-day event bringing choirs and local community together, celebrating the love of singing and promoting inclusion and awareness.
Hosted by local community choir Northern Proud Voices, the next event will take place at Sage Gateshead 27-29 August 2021 and expects to attract up to 1,000 delegates.
Up to 40 choirs will have the opportunity to perform on stage at Sage Gateshead and spend the weekend in and around the city.
Paul Szomoru director of tourism and business events at NewcastleGateshead Convention Bureau, said: “NewcastleGateshead is a warm and welcoming destination for all and we’re looking forward to Hand in Hand delegates experiencing the diversity of our city and friendliness of the Geordies. It’s set to be a fantastic event which will not only be entertaining but also crucially educational for the local community.”
Concert tickets will be available to the general public, with proceeds going towards supporting Northern Proud Voices and the LGBTQ+ community.
Chair of Northern Proud Voices, Lynzee McShea, said: “Northern Proud Voices is the largest and longest running LGBTQ+ choir in the North East and we cannot wait to host the 2021 Hand in Hand LGBT choral festival in NewcastleGateshead. Not only is this a chance to showcase a beautiful part of the North East and some wonderful singing, it also coincides with the 10th anniversary of our choir. What better way to celebrate, we hope to see you there!”
