From Oslo to Newcastle – international travel and conference experts pay flying visit to North East

The North East of England was showcased to meetings, incentives, conferences, and travel managements companies in an international visit that took place last week.

NewcastleGateshead Convention Bureau, part of NewcastleGateshead Initiative (NGI), is working in collaboration with Scottish airline, Loganair to promote the region as a destination from Oslo to Newcastle International Airport to a business events audience.

The delegation were in the region from 9th to 11th May, and was made up of industry experts and agents from Europe.

Jen Rea Head of Business Events and Travel Trade at NGI, said:

“We had an excellent time welcoming the delegation with Loganair to the North East. We are an ambitious and vibrant destination, and this visit is part of our work focusing on international collaboration, empowering us to showcase the North East to the rest of the world.

“This is an exciting time for our business events industry, with our event offer expanding rapidly thanks to new investments such as the Sage ICC and even more investment into our hotels and hospitality. The visit was designed to be a shining example of what delegates and event organisers can book, plan and experience while they are here, as well as demonstrate just how accessible the North East is to international visitors.

“The positive impact of bringing international delegates and events to the region is incomparable, bringing influential audiences, future investment opportunities and direct economic value to the region. The ease of travel to a destination plays a huge part in attracting such audiences and we’re delighted to be working with our partners and colleagues to build on the success of this travel route and the future of our industry.”

The group of five industry experts experienced products, venues and services from across the region including accommodation and venue insight at the Vermont Hotel, Crowne Plaza Hotel Newcastle Stephenson Quarter and Hilton Newcastle Gateshead, as well as hospitality from Newcastle United Football Club and By The River Brew Co. and leisure experiences such as Alnwick Castle, Alnwick Garden and Sage Gateshead.

Loganair’s Chief Commercial Officer, Luke Lovegrove, said: “Loganair is looking forward to its busiest ever summer at Newcastle this year. We’ve been really happy with the response to our new routes to Newcastle, Oslo via Aberdeen and the additional Southampton flights from two to three daily. We are committed to Newcastle and love working with the team.”

Leon McQuaid, Director of Aviation Development at Newcastle International Airport, said:

“Loganair operates to seven destinations from Newcastle International Airport and recently unveiled its biggest ever programme of flights from the Airport for this summer season. The new route to Oslo, via Aberdeen, not only provides a brand new destination for outbound passengers flying from Newcastle to explore, but also an additional inbound market that organisations across the region can benefit from. We’re delighted to welcome the delegation to the region.”
