NewcastleGateshead Convention Bureau and Gateshead Council will be revealing the latest plans for the UK’s newest arena, conference and exhibition centre to the events industry at this year’s The Meetings Show which will take place 26-27 June 2019.
The development will sit on Gateshead Quays, between the iconic buildings of Sage Gateshead and BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art and is anticipated to attract over 290,000 additional visitors to North East England each year.
Set for completion in 2024, the £250m scheme will comprise a 12,500-seat arena, 2,800m2 of meeting space and 6,300m2 of exhibition space, along with two brand new hotels.

Attendees will hear all the latest information about Gateshead Quays ahead of the main show and representatives will be on hand throughout the wider Meetings Show to discuss plans further.
Paul Szomoru, director of business events at NewcastleGateshead Convention Bureau, said: “The Meetings Show has an even larger international presence this year so this is the perfect opportunity to launch our arena, conference and exhibition centre on Gateshead Quays to industry.
“This is a very exciting time for NewcastleGateshead, with an investment of this scale and quality, dedicated to hosting events coming in 2024. When you factor in its location and the epic setting on the banks of the River Tyne – this is something special for the UK, that will boost our international competitiveness.
“We’re exhibiting at The Meetings Show alongside Gateshead Council, Sage Gateshead, Hilton, Crowne Plaza, Northumbria University, Alnwick Castle and R&B Group – showcasing not just the new development, but giving a flavour of the fantastic array of venues, hotels and support services that are here now, delivering excellent experiences for people looking for their next event or conference.
“We already have an outstanding offer for events organisers, being under three hours from London by train, and having an international airport with flights from 80 destinations means we’re very easy to get to. The development on Gateshead Quays is only going to build on this and strengthen our reputation for hosting business events.”
NewcastleGateshead Convention Bureau and partners will be on stand J400 at The Meetings Show which is a leading event for the UK inbound and outbound meetings and events industry, with more than 700 exhibitors attending this year.
