International air and sea routes
Newcastle International Airport is the region’s busiest airport, flying to more than 80 destinations worldwide including popular hubs such as London, Amsterdam, Paris and Dubai. It’s an award-winner for its work towards net zero emissions, including woodland planting on the surrounding land as well as the installation of a solar farm and EV charging infrastructure.
The airport is served by many airlines, including Emirates, British Airways, KLM, Air France, Jet2, easyJet and Lufthansa, providing direct links from top international and UK destinations.
The route from the airport to the city centre is one of the fastest in Europe, taking only 23 minutes on the Tyne & Wear Metro. Metro trains run every 12 – 15 minutes and single tickets cost from just £3.40. Taxis to the city centre cost around £17.

The North Shields International Ferry Terminal at Port of Tyne links the North of England to Northern Europe, with daily crossings to and from Amsterdam operated by DFDS.
Shuttle buses take around 30 minutes to travel to Newcastle Central Station and are scheduled to coincide with ferry arrivals and departures. Taxis to the city centre cost approximately £15 from the ferry terminal.

UK travel
Newcastle Central Station is right in the heart of the city centre and is served by Lumo, LNER, Northern Rail, CrossCountry Trains and Transpennine Express; all operating direct services from most major cities in Britain. Train operators LNER, Lumo, Northern, Transpennine Express and Cross Country all run services here with London and Manchester accessible in under three hours and Edinburgh just one hour thirty minutes away.
Newcastle Central Station is within easy walking distance to many of the destination’s attractions, hotels and venues, and as the hub of NewcastleGateshead’s transport infrastructure, it is extremely well connected.
Newcastle and Gateshead is well-connected to the rest of the UK by a network of major roads, including the A1(M) which directly links it to London, the South, and Scotland. The A69 connects us with historic Carlisle, Hadrian’s Wall sites and the Lake District. Many visitors from the West of England and Wales can arrive via the M6. Central car parks are situated only a short distance from all routes and are well signposted throughout the city.
