Venues and suppliers
Third party sustainability certifications are a helpful tool for event planners looking for sustainable venues and suppliers. Looking out for badges such as Green Tourism, Green Meetings, Green Key and the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) provides reassurance that the suppliers you choose are committed to sustainability, and have access to support and guidance for continuous improvement in environmental and social responsibility.
NewcastleGateshead and the surrounding area has a substantial and growing number of venues, hotels and suppliers with third party sustainability certification (including NewcastleGateshead Initiative, the company our convention bureau sits within). As part of the region’s commitment to sustainable and regenerative tourism, Destination North East England recently partnered with Green Tourism to offer subsidised memberships and we’re now seeing those new members achieve their certifications.
