In February 2017, Digital enthusiasts from all over the world travelled to the North East of England for the innovation in technology led show, BIM Show Live.

Overview

The show was founded in 2011 by Space Group, a BIM (Building Information Modelling) and digital construction specialists based in Newcastle.

Previously held in London and Manchester, BIM Show Live founders – Space Group’s CEO Rob Charlton and technology director Adam Ward, plus product manager at Autodesk James Austin – wanted to bring the show back to its roots for 2017.

The two day, sell-out event, was attended by over 400 delegates at the newly renovated Grade II* listed Boiler Shop in Newcastle’s Stephenson Quarter, delivered by BeaconHouse Events.

The conference has grown into one of the most trusted information-sharing platforms for Building Information Modelling (BIM) and the 2017 show revisited its initial objective to focus on technology.

Over the course of two days, delegates gathered for a series of keynotes, panel, and interactive seminar sessions from BIM and digital construction experts from across the globe.

The content-driven conference addressed new advances in the world of digital construction; from artificial intelligence to predictive data, and exclusive access to never before seen technological developments.

Following its huge success in 2017, the conference is set to return to Newcastle in 2018.

Support

The Newcastle Convention Bureau supported as an accommodation booking service, negotiating great rates at nearby hotels and created a dedicated on-line booking channel, exclusively for BIM Show delegates. They also sourced the conference venue, Boiler Shop, and brought on board local Professional Conference and Events Organisers, BeaconHouse Events.

Newcastle Convention Bureau were also awarded funding from the VisitBritain Event Support Programme to internationalise the conference. This included an enhanced web presence and a hosted delegation of international organisations – managed by the Invest Newcastle team – enabling the promotion of the market opportunities and benefits of locating in Newcastle.

BIM Show Live was one of a number of successful projects to benefit from VisitBritain’s Event Support Programme which was born out of the Government’s Event Industry Board (EIB), established in 2015 to improve and promote the UK Events sector.

Testimonial:

“The Newcastle Convention Bureau were a great support in helping us bring BIM Show Live back to our home town and sourcing a venue that worked so perfectly for the event.”

“BIM Show Live 2017 was a significant achievement and one we look forward to building on in 2018. We delivered a memorable event and generated an outstanding knowledge and exchange platform for digital construction which potentially created numerous opportunities for the future. Seminars were incredibly well attended and we were bowled over by the fantastic feedback from all the delegates, who praised both the venue and the city.

“The North East has become a centre of excellence for digital construction in the UK and with the success of BIM Show Live we aim to raise this profile even further. We look forward to working closely with both the Newcastle Convention Bureau and BeaconHouse again in building on the international success of BIM Show Live and producing another high-quality event in 2018.”
