We caught up with Steven Powell, Consultant Paediatric ENT Surgeon about the 2024 Joint North of England Otolaryngology Society and ENT Scotland Meeting, which was held in Newcastle at The Common Room, and how organising a conference can be made easier with help from our Convention Bureau.
How has your conference been so far?
It’s been a fabulous couple of days. We’ve had a wonderful venue here at The Common Room and then we had a great social evening at the Crowne Plaza. It has had outstanding feedback and people have really enjoyed visiting the city.
Why was Newcastle the ideal location for your conference?
Newcastle is where I work and live. It’s such a fabulous city and it’s just a great opportunity to showcase the city to colleagues from different regions and even other parts of the world.
What are the benefits of hosting a conference in Newcastle?
It’s so easy to host a conference in Newcastle because we’ve got great venues, great hotels and great nightlife, lots of places to eat, and it’s just so easy to organise it. People have really enjoyed visiting it and I’d love to do it again soon
How has it been working with NewcastleGateshead Convention Bureau?
It has been fabulous. I gave them a brief some time ago. They gave me a prospectus of venues and then they helped me and actually came with me to see several venues until we picked the most appropriate one and we got a brilliant venue in The Common Room. They were also able to help with entertainment in the evening, choosing suitable venues and hotel rooms and the whole experience has been brilliant. It’s really made organising a conference much easier than it would be having to do it all yourself and I look forward to working with them again.
